We are living in Bosnia currently. We are separated from our families and our children. We are completely crushed and will never understand why this has happened to us. We fought every step of the way and lost. An innocent person sat in prison for two years and nothing was gained by it. No laws changed, few people even cared. I learned of a whole new ugly dark side of people through this process. In the same breath we met some of the most supportive, caring and compassionate people too. We are struggling in a country we don't understand and just want to know why this happened?? Thanks for your support and thanks to everyone who is still wondering about us.

Lt Watada to be allowed to resign:

Lieutenant Watada told The Honolulu Star-Bulletin, “The actual outcome is different from the outcome that I envisioned in the first place, but I am grateful of the outcome.”

A Fort Lewis spokesman, Joseph Piek, would not confirm Lieutenant Watada’s type of discharge, citing privacy rules. But he said late Friday that Army regulations described “resignation for the good of the service in lieu of general court-martial.”

From the Forward:

Uzbekistan-born diamond mogul Lev Leviev announced late in August that his company, Africa-Israel, was drowning in debt of more than $5.5 billion that it could not repay.

[...] Watching Leviev’s precipitous downfall from the sidelines were pro-Palestinian activists. And they were cheering.

Though certainly not the cause of his financial collapse, for the past two years, these activists have singled out Leviev as one of their high-profile villains for his large contributions to West Bank settlements. And they have been effective gadflies.

[...] Lately, the fruits of this focus on Leviev have been piling up. On Sept. 11 TIAA-CREF, the giant pension fund, announced that it had divested from Africa-Israel last March after 59 of the company’s investors accused it of being “a company which violates human rights and international law.” UNICEF and OXFAM denied Leviev’s public claims to have given them generous contributions and added that they would not accept contributions from him because of his financial support for West Bank settlements. Also, in the past few weeks, a couple of Africa-Israel’s largest investors have sold their stock in Leviev’s company after receiving pressure from their clients. Most notable was BlackRock, the British subsidiary of the major Wall Street banking firm, which announced that it was divesting following concerns expressed by three client Scandinavian banks.

“Those aren’t small things,” said Andrew Kadi, a member of Adalah who is involved with the Leviev campaign. “People don’t completely grasp how serious it is when two of your top 10 or 12 shareholders divest. We’re talking about millions of dollars.”

Some more quotes from Monazeri, warning the Iranian government that their actions could lead to their downfall.

"I hope the authorities wake up before it is too late and do not hurt the reputation of the Islamic republic further ... and cause their own fall and that of the system,"

From a comment by Senhal at JSF:

In finding that M. Willem's rights had not been violated it relied heavily on the somewhat ad hoc arguments offered by the French courts and subsequently the French government, viz.:

1) M. Willem made his call for boycott in his official capacity as mayor of a village;

[...] I can't see how this case can possibly set precedent for anyone other than French sub-national elected politicians holding executive office.

[...] The short version of the above: in no way can this ruling be construed as to ban the vast majority of Europeans from boycotting - or calling for the boycott of - Israeli goods and services. (But I am not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice. If anyone more schooled than I in ECHR jurisprudence disagrees with me, I would be most interested in hearing your arguments; I'm fully aware of the fact that I may be completely wrong.)
