Gaza on Monday

The air raids continue and, after reports of Egyptian soldiers firing on Gazan’s yesterday, there is a report of an Egyptian soldier shot dead. APA:

Egypt, on Sunday stepped up security measures on its border with the Gaza Strip and closed the Rafah crossing point between Egypt ant the strip after the killing of Major Yasser Friege Esawy from the Egyptian border guard forces by shots from Hamas members near Salah al-Din Gate, in the Egyptian city of Rafah about 570 kilometres north-east of Cairo.

Two other Egyptian soldiers were wounded in the attack.

Large numbers of Palestinians had poured earlier on Sunday from Gaza Strip to the Egyptian border city of Rafah via the Salah al-Din Gate after breaking a part of the border wall separating the two sides to escape the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

Another Israeli has been killed. Haaretz:

One Israeli was killed and fourteen others were wounded by a Palestinian Grad missile which exploded near a construction site in the coastal town of Ashkelon.

Most of the victims were construction workers from the Galilee village of Manda and the Bedouin town of Rahat. Five were considered in serious condition, four sustained moderate wounds, and five suffered light injuries.

The man who was killed was named as 27-year-old construction worker Hani al Mahdi, from the Bedouin village of Aroer.
